About Us

Our Story

Window Woman of New England was founded in 2003 by Alison Hardy. The inspiration for the business stemmed from years of frustration while residing in old houses with drafty, broken windows, coupled with dissatisfaction with available replacement options. Rooted in Yankee thrift, it seemed illogical to discard windows brimming with charm and character simply because they were weathered or painted shut. After enduring years of trial and error, extensive research, and growing disillusionment with her career in the textile industry, Alison began refurbishing not only her windows but also those of friends and eventually paying clients.

The Team

The Window Woman team collectively brings a diverse range of skills from their past experiences, all united by a shared commitment to delivering superior craftsmanship. Our journey is one of continuous growth and mutual learning, drawing insights from each other and the wide array of windows we encounter. Last year alone, we restored over 600 windows and repaired an additional 700+, a testament to our dedication to preserving architectural heritage.

Our Location

Based in Amesbury, MA, just north of Boston, our services extend across the North Shore Boston, Merrimack Valley, and Southern New Hampshire regions. We also accept windows delivered to our workshop for restoration. We take pride in empowering homeowners who wish to tackle window restoration themselves by providing guidance and access to specialized materials.

"After careful consideration, we decided to restore rather than replace our original windows during a renovation. Alison and her crew were very responsive, friendly, and and performed good work. I learned a lot about the history, mechanics, and upkeep of these windows, and am proud to have saved a part of New England history."

Rehaan Whitfield

"Alison and the crew never dissapoint! I've used Window Woman of New England for several jobs now and will continue to do so in the future. The latest job was a custom transom window for a re-designed doorway. The window was perfect, and constructed with traditional methods and period glass. I couldn't be happier! Highly recommend!"

Sean Maher

"Window Woman of New England is a great company to work with. They take pride in their work and hold themselves to high standards of quality. I wish there were more craftspeople like them to help with our old buildings!"
